Panama Wiretapping trial set for August
THE TRIAL of two former Security Council officials charged with illegal surveillance has been set for Aug. 17, 18 and 20 in the 16th Circuit Criminal Court.
The defendants are Gustavo Pérez and Alejandro Garuz, former Council executive directors. They are charged with violating privacy laws.
Also summoned are Ronny Rodríguez and William Pitti, who remain fugitives. Garuz and Perez are in custody.
The hearing is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.

The four are accused of having intercepted communications from more than 150 journalists, businessmen, leaders of civil society and opponents of the government of Ricardo Martinelli (2009-2014).
The investigation began on July 29, 2014.
