File accusing Martinelli heads to Supreme Court

PANAMA’S Attorney Genera, Kenia Porcell has sent the Supreme Court of (CSJ) an authenticated copy of the declaration of the former director of the National Assistance Program (PAN), Giacomo Tamburelli, in which he accuses former President Ricardo Martinelli of ordering him to make a$45 million contract for dehydrated foods distributed to public schools.

The information was confirmed to La Prensa by the Public Relations Department of Public Prosecutions and CSJ sources.
Submitting this preliminary statement and other procedural documents where Martinelli is mentioned will be used in the lawsuit against the former president introduced in the Supreme Court last week by former presidential candidate for President of the Republic Juan Jované.
The rapporteur of the complaint is the judge of the Civil Division Oyden Ortega, who on Monday January 12 asked the Attorney General for a copy of the signed statement which mentions Martinelli.
The next day Porcell replied to the magistrate’s requested.
From now Judge Ortega should study the record the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), regional body where Martinelli was sworn in as a Deputy hours after his presidential term expired. He had previously described Parlacen as “a gang of thieves”
The public relations department of the Public Ministry clarified that the documentation sent by Porcell is unrelated to a decision by Second Anticorruption Prosecutor, Lizzett Chevalier, to send copies to the Court of the whole proceeding against Giacomo Tamburrelli to determine whether to investigate Martinelli.
CSJ and the General Secretariat of the Court have received the certified copy of the 22 volumes of the dossier sent by Chevalier.
