CD call center scandal trial stays on track
A MOTION for dismissal of proceedings against a former vice-minister involved in the CD Call center scandal during the last election has been denied by Thirteenth Criminal Court.
The exvice-minister of Domestic Trade, Luis Eduardo Camacho González, is facing charges of alleged embezzlement in the operation of a call center at public expense to for the Democratic Change (CD) party campaign.
The appeal was filed by attorney Yolanda Austin defending Camacho González.
She requested the annulment process under the assumption that the Second Anticorruption Prosecutor was not competent to initiate, because the defendant still held the post of deputy minister. Therefore, it should be syndicated by the superior office of the Attorney General’s Office.
Judge Alina Hubiedo on January 7 denied the appeal, stating that at the time of the inquiry order, August 22, Camacho González was no longer a deputy.
Based on that, Hubiedo considers that there are no grounds for annulment in the investigation.
The court issued an edict to notify the parties involved. Along with Camacho González, are charged the former director of the National Immigration Service Maria Cristina Gonzalez, Giancarlo Terán supervisor of the call center and three others.
