Supreme Court calls for lifting of 34 deputies immunity

AYU PRADO, president of Panama’s  Supreme Court has asked the Electoral Tribunal lift the immunity from prosecution of34 elected deputies.

The measure arises due to a lawsuit filed by lawyer Ernesto Cedeño over the use of $403 million dollars or local handouts by deputies during the administration of Ricardo Martinelli.

The information was confirmed by Magda Ceballos, General Secretary of the Electoral Tribunal reports La Prensa.

She said that the request was sent via email to the judges of the TE, who will now have to decide each case separately.

Asked by telephone, the Cedeño that his hopewould be to lift the immunity of the 34 electoral deputies mentioned in its application.
