Immunity lifted on CD candidate

THE ELECTORAL TRIBUNAL has lifted the immunity from prosecutionof former Democratic Change (CD) candidate in Herrera, Heriberto ‘Yunito’ Vega.

The deputy prosecutor of the Circuit de Herrera, Leysa Rivera Vergara, called for the lifting of immunity because she is conducting an investigation into a complaint against Vega for the alleged commission of an offense against the economic order.
The complaint was filed by the company Julsa Chitre, SA
Through the agreement Sala 80-1, of December 9, 2014, the TE authorized the lifting of immunity which Vega enjoys for participating in the May elections
According to the prosecution, the company Julsa Chitre, SA, delivered fuel for 3D & L Company, SA, whose legal representative is Vega, but the company paid with a”bounced check”.
Vega, who was contracted by the government of Ricardo Martinelli, is also being investigated by the Electoral Attorney General, for alleged use of public resources for hiscampaign.
Meanwhile ,the TE decided to abstain from the request for a waiver of immunity of Carlos ‘Tito’ Afú, current deputy of Democratic Change as it no longer has competency
Prosecutor Cesar Tello Roman Solano, conducting an investigation by a filed complaint against Afu-from circuit 7-1 (Los Santos) – for allegedly committing a crime against honor the detriment of journalist and Telemetro newscaster, Álvaro Alvardo.
According to the prosecutor, the trial investigation was initiated by a criminal complaint filed on May 2, 2014 before The May 4 election day, Afu was elected but was challenged. The TE conducted an audit process alleging the use of millions of dollars of government funds during his campaign. He was re-elected November 16 elections that Afú again returned to the Assembly
Afú was without legislative privileges-from May to mid l November Afú received his credentials and immunity on November 22, 2014, and on December 11 the TE decided it was inhibited and to leave the case to the Court.
