Voters swing away from Martinellis CD party

PANAMA’S ruling Panameñista Party won three seats in the Sunday, December 21 elections,and the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) took another and the Ricardo Martinelli opposition Democratic Change (CD) won two seats. The results ensure a comfortable majority for the allied parties in the National Assembly. In both seats won by the CD, the candidate did not win a plurality.

This puts the final composition as: PRD, 26 deputies; CD, 25; Panameñista, 16; MOLIRENA two; Popular, one independent, one.
Circuit 2-1 Cocle: Panameñista Jorge Iván Arrocha With 96.6% of polling stations, had 14,865 votes (62.05%). Omar Castrillo, (CD)former deputy finance minister in the Martinelli 8,823 (36.83%).
Circuit 4-5 (Boquete, Dolega and Gualaca): Athenas Athanasiadis (PRD) 9,617 (50.33%) Manuel Ruiz, (CD),  9,462 (49.52%).
Circuit 4-6 (San Felix / San Lorenzo / Remedioss / Tolé): Jorge Alberto Rosas (Panameñista 8,028 votes (53.64%) Giselle Anne Rosas (CD) 6,939 (46.36% ).
6-1 Circuit Chitre: Manuel Cohen (CD), retained the seat, with 8,170 votes (41.75%) in the Guido Spadafora (Panameñista and PP) 6,543 (33.4%) “Bamby” González. 4,821 (24.6%).
9-1(Santiago/Veraguas): Carlos Santana (Panameñista, 17,229 (59.25%). Porfirio Ellis (CD) 11,456 (39.3%) [a total of 159 tables, six tables in inaccessible areas] still to be counted]
Circuit 9-2 (La Mesa, Las Palmas, Sona)Hector Aparicio (CD) 10,837 (48.9%) Luis Abrego (PRD) 8, 154 (36.8%) Santana Hernández’s (PP) 2 989 (13.75%), with eight tables difficult to access still to scrutinize.
