Two quakes and 20 aftershocks in Chiriqui
A SECOND EARTHQUAKE of 5.6 magnitude on the Richter scale was recorded in Chiriqui at 1:44 pm on Monday, December 8. An earlier quake registered 6.4 and was followed by 20 aftershocks.
Preliminary reports from the Institute of Geosciences at the University of Panama said that the latest quake was centered 36 kilometers from the town of Puerto Amuelo in the Baru district., its epicenter in the Gulf of Charco Azul was at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) in the regional Emergency Operations Center called for inhabitants to remain calm
