Panamanian diplomat murdered, suspect arrested
A SUSPECT in the murder of a Panamanian diplom was arrested by police in Belize Monday night, November 24, as part of the investigation into the murder of Panamanian diplomat José Rodrigo De La Rosa Stanford.
According to information disclosed by Belize television, the suspect knew the diplomat who was killed Sunday afternoon in Belmopan.
De La Rosa was murdered at about 4 p.m. near a restaurant. His Nissan truck with diplomatic license plates has not been located.
On Monday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that President Juan Carlos Varela had made the presidential plane available to relatives of the diplomat to travel to Belize. It also plans to send a delegation to assist and observe the investigation reports La Prensa.
De La Rosa was a graduate of the Faculty of International Relations of the University of Panama and had worked for 39 years in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
