Demands swell for big-spender Judge resignation

DEMANDS for the resignation of beleaguered Panama Supreme Court Justice Alejandro Moncada Luna are growing by the hour and protestors have moved to the steps of the Court building.

Among organized civil society groups making the call are: the Panamanian Association of Business Executives, The Center for Social Studies and Action,The National Civic and Moral Commission, TheCitizenship School, Panamanian League Against Impunity and Corruption Citizens Movement for Identity, and the Panamanian Peace and Justice Service.
Previously, demands for Moncada Luna’s resignations have emanated from the Citizens Alliance for Justice, The National Bar Association, The People’s Legal Assistance Center, The Center for Family Studies and Training, Foundation for the Development of Civic Freedom, Panamanian Institute of Civics, The Citizenship and Anti-Corruption Movement (MOVIN)
According to these organizations, Judge Moncada Luna causes damage to the image of the administration of justice.
Besides organizations, numerous prominent citizens have joined the removal of the judge including Celia Moreno, Edilia Camargo, Carlos Abadía, Tomás H. Herrera D. and José Chen Barría and fellow judges have called for an emergency meeting of the court

On Tuesday September 30 La Prensa published research showing that Moncada Luna who was appointed by Ricardo Martinelli four and a half years ago. acquired two apartments, one of them in Coco del Marfor over $1.7 million
Before taking office, Moncada Moon prepared an equity statement said having only a 2005 2005 and a gold like “President”watch and he was not aware that he oon or his wife María del Pilar would benefit from an inheritance or probate.
“Mr. Moncada Luna should not continue to administer justice while these facts are clarified and while all the other complaints that have been foisted on him are clarified,” says a statement from the protestors.

The organizations said they remained vigilant of the actions of the National Assembly, not only about these claims, but in the appointment of the new Comptroller General and the new Attorney General’s Office and the administration, of key institutions
