150 homeless following Colon fire

OVER 150 people were made homeless by a fire that destroyed two buildings in Colon in the early hours of Wednesday August 3.

A preliminary report by the Ministry of Housing has revealed that 32 families living in the buildings were affected by the fire on Calles 5 and 6 and Avenidas Balboa and Bolívar in Barrio Norte, Colón.

Ministry Social Development Director Anaís Marín said that some families will stay with relatives while others will stay at pensions and hotels in the area. The families will receive a housing subsidy of $200 monthly. The official said that both structures will be demolished.
Civil defense agency Sinaproc is collecting donations of clothing, food and household items for the families. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
