New boss named for CSS as holder leaves questions in the air

AS THE OUTGOING head of Panama’s Social Security Fund (CSS) heads for the door leaving many questions unanswered ,President Juan Carlos Varela has named his successor and called for better use of resources and efficient coordination between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the CSS.

He called on the new authorities of the CSS and (MoH) and the unions of workers in the sectorto “start an efficient coordination of public health systems for the benefit of citizens.”
 Estivenson Girón was appointed as the new director general replacing Guillermo Sáez-Llorens, who ends his term on September 30.
A statement from the Ministry of Communication of State reports that Varela said:
“Panamanians demand better use of resources and thus the efficient coordination between the MoH and the CSS is urgent: that is the challenge that Estivenson Girón, faces today and I’m sure he will meet it,”.
The board of Social Security. had nominated 24 candidates and the new appointment must be ratified by the National Assembly before October, the month that he will taking office.
PROFILE
Giron worked at the CSS for nine years as a financial analyst in the Office of Financial Management and was national director of Administration and Finance of the Panamanian Institute for Special Training (2000-2004).
He is a university professor of marketing and economics at undergraduate, graduate, master’s and doctorate level at the University of the Isthmus; He is also a lecturer at the Universidad Santa Maria La Antigua.
His educational background includes a Ph.D.economics from the American University of Panama; a Master of Education at the University of the Isthmus; Masters in Applied Economics at American University in Washington, DC as well as a degree in business administration from the University of Panama, and BA in economics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil.
