48 hours heavy rains alert

A GREEN 48 HOURS weather alert was issued by The National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC on Friday,  August 22, with heavy  rainfall expected through the weekend.

A Green alert level involves prevention and reporting to the general community and institutions of first response, said SINAPROC  director, José Donderis.

The alert has gone out toChiriqui (highlands)  Boquete, , , Volcán, Remedios, Tolé, Las Lajas and surrounding villages); Veraguas (Santa Catalina, Las Palmas and Sona); (Serrania de Maje and surrounding towns) Panama; Panama Oeste (Chame, Cabuya, Las Lajas); Colon coast (Las Mercedes, Puerto Pilon and Sabanita) and Wounaan Comarca.

“The  public is asked to remain alert to the levels of rivers, streams and sewers. In areas prone to landslides  all necessary preventive measures should be taken to protect and safeguard the public,” said Donderis.

Meanwhile, continuing bad weather led to the calling of the search for the three-year old, in the Chiriqui Viejo River. He was swept away by floodwaters that killed 10 people.

Weather reports from the Electricity Transmission Company (Etesa) indicate that during the next 48 hours rainfall will be moderate to heavy, with electrical activity.
