Comptroller to face National Assembly

PANAMA’s National Assembly has approved a date for Comptroller Gioconda de Bianchini to answer questions about her management of that institution.

The proposal, submitted by Luis Barría,on Tuesday August 5 received 31 votes. There were none against.

Among the questions that will be asked the comptroller are the number of turnkey projects approved by the administration of Ricardo Martinelli and the transfer of funds to community boards.

On July 23 the CD thwarted an attempt to summon the comptroller by independent Deputy Ana Matilde Gómez.

Bianchini was appointed comptroller in 2009 for a period of five years. At the time of her appointment she was working for businesses owned by Ricardo Martinelli, and has been criticized for rubber stamping mulriple direct contracts, Her term will end on December 31.,
