President not happy with work of Comptroller
PRESIDENT Juan Carlos Varela is not happy with the country’s comptroller, Gioconda Torres de Bianchini, a former employee of Ricardo Martinelli, who was given the post by the ex-president when he introduced the direct contracts program at the start of his administration.
Varela emphasized Tuesday, July 15, that he does not feel comfortable with the work of Torres de Bianchini,
According to Varela, there should be greater cooperation between the Comptroller and the Executive.
He said that he has seen endorsements by the Comptroller that make no sense, such as the approval of $10 million for the waste agency AAUD to repair and rent garbage trucks.
“There are things that have not been done in the right way,” Varela said, adding that he has not had the opportunity to meet with the comptroller reports La Prensa.
“The ideal is to allow the government to advance and not lock up its management,” he said.
When he won the election in May, Varela requested the resignation of a number of senior officials who were appointed during the administration of Ricardo Martinelli (2009-2014). Among them is Bianchini, who is comptroller until Dec. 31.
