Vigil seeking answers to La Villa river pollution
HUNDREDS of people participated on Monday night, July 7, in a vigil in Union Park in Chitré to call for answers to the pollution of La Villa River that has rendered its water undrinkable. More vigils and protests are planned. The participants demanded that those responsible be punished.
“When we are going to stop having to drink water from a bottle?” “How much longer will people be able to play with the health of the population?” were some of the questions asked by the participants reports La Prensa.
The Committee to Save La Villa River said that the population of Azuero “has the right to receive, in a transparent manner and without detours, all available information about the real state of the river.
“We demand a detailed investigation to determine the company or companies responsible for polluting La Villa River as well as the establishment of tough sanctions,” said the organization.
