Noriega does not deserve forgiveness – former general
FORMER GENERAL Manuel Antonio Noriega, should spend the rest of his days locked in the El Renacer prison says retired General Rubén Darío Paredes.
He told La Prensa: "He does not deserve forgiveness or the consideration given to prisoners on humanitarian grounds or extenuating circumstances"
Paredes was responding to applications presented to move the former military dictator to house arrest.
Noriega earned three convictions for the beheading of Doctor Hugo Spadafora in September 1985; the murder of Major Moises Giroldi, and the episode known as the "slaughter of Albrook" where 11 soldiers Were shot in October 1989. Pending is a hearing on the disappearance of community leader Heliodoro Portugal.
"I have meditated on the situation of Noriega, and previous attempts by the family for an injunction to get him home … But the execution of the 11 junior soldiers … A heartless execution … When I analyzein at my mind that Noriega did not respect their human rights he deserves to spend the rest of his sentence in prison, "Paredes said.
Paredes, who turns 81 in August said: "I holdno grudge against Noriega whom I have not seen since September 1983, when I separated from the Command to qualify for the Presidency of the Republic." Noriega, who supposedly supported him in those intentions, betrayed him.
Noriega has-been held in the El Renacer prison since December 2011, when He came to Panama after an absence of nearly 22 years, whileserving sentences in Miami for drug trafficking and organized crime, and Paris (France), for laundering drug money.
