Panama sends lawyers to Italian soap opera trial

IN WHAT APPEARS to be an about face two staff members from Panama’s Attorney General’s office are in Italy to view the process in a corruption trial linked to Panama that President Ricardo Martinelli has labeled a soap opera.
In Panama, the prosecution closed the case, arguing that there were not enough elements to investigate
Ramses Barrera and Greta Marchosky , General Secretary and Secretary of International Affairs of the Attorney General 's Office have traveled to Italy , presumably to discuss the process that is underway in against Válter Lavítola for international corruption in Panama .
Public Ministry sources confirmed that both officials are already there, but did not specify details of the proceedings says La Prensa.
The trial of Lavítola and Paolo Pozzessere, former commercial director of Finmeccanica consortium for alleged international corruption, with direct sales to Panama ofhelicopters , radar and digital mapping will be held in Rome on June 23.
If Panama, as a state, wants to be part of the judicial process that is underway it, must appear as before the scheduled trial.
On several occasions, Panama’s National Bar Association has publicly called on the Panamanian authorities to comply with this requirement, as did India, which is also mentioned as part of the fabric of international corruption.
Martinelli and other government officials have discredited the Italian research, which they describe as
"mistranslated” or a “bad telenovela "
