$300 fine as subway user hits emergency button
THE PANAMA Metro Secretariat (SMP ) has levied a $300 fine on a passenger who activated an emergency button without just cause at the Albrook station on Wednesday, May 28.
The fine has to be paid within a period not exceeding 30 days If it is not paid by then the SMP will pass the collection to National Revenue Authority which can move to garnishee the user’s pay.
The SMP explained, in a statement, that by pressing the button, the system automatically stops, because it is an indication that there is an emergency at the station.
After a review of an incident the Operations Control Center and the agents responsible for Metro trains and stations can reset operations within two minutes.
The Metro regulations say that the fine must be paid at the offices of Metro, or the case goes to the National Revenue Authority.
