Metro fare will be 35 cents

THE FARE for the Panama Metro will be 35 cents and collection will begin June 15 says President Ricardo Martinelli.

Martinelli eschewed his favorite transmission method, Twitter, and the announcement was made on the website of the presidency, on Wednesday May 14.

Martinelli said that this price will protect the "purchasing power of Panamanians" and guarantee "fast and secure transportation."
The Panama Metro was inaugurated on April 5 and has been used by more than 6 million passengers travelling free.
"The Metro has operated in a stage of adaptation and adjustment, under strict security measures," said the message on the website.
The system has encountered two issues since it opened. The first came this week when service was disrupted due to an electrical problem at the Betania station, which is under construction. The second was in April when service was interrupted for about 20 minutes to replace a faulty control.
