Canal Authority predicts expansion delays

 The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) took a different tack from President Ricardo Martinelli on Friday April 25 saying  that every day of the strike on the waterway represents new delays in the completion of the work,

It said that the strike impacts more than 8000 workers and affects ACP revenue projections and tarnishes and damages the reputation of the country as a reliable route and logistics  and transport center of the region.

The warning came during the third day of strike called by the Trade Union of Construction and Allied Workers( Suntracs ). , " Both from the Board of the ACP and the of the Canal Administration, we call for work on site  to be  reactivated as soon as possible to avoid serious damageto Panama said Jorge Luis Quijano, ACP  administrator .

 The ACP said that after a strike in 2012 reached an agreement granting a salary increase of 15 % for skilled workers and 12.5 % for the unskilled .

He added that the economic impact of that agreement assimilated by the ACP will reach about $35 million.
