Attorney General readies for Italian corruption trial request
PANAMA'S Attorney General Ana Belfón says that she expects to get a request soon from prosecutors in Rome for information .. about contracts between the government and Italian consortium Finmeccanica.
The contracts are the subject of a corruption trial in that country that is expected to start in June.
Belfon has already said that the investigation in Panama is closed in spite of high profile ruling insider names coming to light in Italian prosecutors' briefs.
The trial of a former Finmeccanica president and Valter Lavitola his high rolling go-between with the Panamanian government is set for late June.
Belfón said that she will provide any documentation that is requested, and that she is confident that these documents will verify that no Panamanian officials were linked to the case reports La Prensa
