Panama boxer retains world title

PANAMA’S Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno defended his World Boxing Association bantam weight title for the 12th time on Saturday, March 23 by defeating Argentine Javier Chacon.

The fight took place in the Roberto Duran Arena, named after Panama’s legendary boxing hero. Panama has produced 25 world title holders.

Moreno who grew up in San Miguelito said: "I knew that the Argentine came to fight for the championship, but my preparation, my skills and my conditioning were superior," Moreno said.
He will now face either Dominican Juan Carlos Payano at 118 pounds or champion Leo Santa Cruz at 122 pounds.
Moreno has expressed interest in the 122-pound title.
