Arias downplays opposition electoral alliance
THE DEMOCRATIC Change party, presidential candidate, has tried to downplay reports of, a possible “natural alliance” between the candidates of the opposition parties PRD and Panamenista.
On Monday, March 3 he said: "I go my way, I am very convinced that the Panamanian people and my covenant with them people, will decided to continue with more changes … " he said. And it's that says Arias feel confident of his victory in the elections next May 4.
Acceding to polls, Arias would garner around just one third of the votes if an election was held this week, and the PRD is close behind him.
Meanwhile, Sergio González Ruiz, president of the Nationalist Republican Liberal Movement (MOLIRENA) the CD ally indicated that they do not care about electioneering alliances, but only to help the people.
"The hardest thing for them [ Juan Carlos Navarro ] and [ Juan Carlos Varela ] will be which of the two is going down , and I know Mr. Varela and he will not bow to Navarro .”
The statements came after yesterday after on Sunday, Gerardo Solis running mate Juan Carlos Navarro for the Revolutionary Democratic Party ( PRD), and Juan Carlos Varela, Panameñista leader talked of a "natural alliance" to defeat theruling party in the elections.
