Half marathon and fun run to benefit environment, Special Olympics and you
THE ENVIRONMENT get a fillip from every competitor who crosses the finishing line in an upcoming half-marathon and “fun” 5K in Chitre, Azuero Panama.
The fourth version of the 21KM Hacienda San Isidro half marathon will be held on Sunday March 30.
Enrollment begins February 24.
The Special Olympics will also benefit from funds raised and a tree will be planted for every person who crosses the finish line.
The event is organized by the Varela Hermanos Team Fitness Club and Tr3max Chitre.
Juan Carlos Varela, one of the family members who own Varela Hermanos , SA, will at the time be some eight weeks away from the end of his own political marathon as he campaigns to become president of Panama.
Some 1,200 runners, are expected to participate, with free transport available for those seeking to experience, running in a countryside and typical of the Azuero Peninsula. Pesé is an industrial town 267.7 km and a 4 -hour drive from Panama City and 25 km and 20 min from Chitre.
"In addition to the race” say the oganizers,”people can enjoy a festive atmosphere with music , traditional artists , lunch , horse carts, toasts and a prize purse of more than $ 7000."
Lisandro Rodriguez, Project Manager of Hacienda San Isidro said the21km route is spectacular as it passes through the reeds of the Hacienda San Isidro, and through the picturesque town of Pesé. Continuing on the most widespread in asphalt road to Los Pozos section, this part is very colorful and many bends where you see and feel beautiful hills that form the Pesé Valley. Then it returns by the same route to reach the finish line, within the historic Hacienda San Isidro.
The 5km run is for younger people and those who want to walk and live the experience, and at the same time help the Special Olympics and the environment

The 21 km event has categories for men and women Under 20 years, 20 to 29 years, 30 to 39 years
0 to 49 years, 50 to 59 years, More than 60 years. There’s a spot somewhere for you, and the 5K could be a break from the Cinta Costera.
