Punta Pacifica residents protest demolition

WHEN push comes to shove even residents of upscale areas like Punta Pacifica and Paitilla become activists ready to take to the streets to voice their concerns.

In Paitllla they are protesting a zoning change allowing the construction of two 55 story towers.

In Punta Pacifica the opposistion is against the transit agency ATTT's decision to demolish an apartment complex's security center.
ATTT Director Roberto Moreno ordered the removal of the center, which serves the residential complex adjoining the seabed lease the state sold to businessman Gabriel Btesh.
The protesters, who live in the buildings Punta Pacific Blue, Royal Pacific and Courtyard View, said that the measure is unilateral and violates their rights.
On Monday, residents blocked a backhoe from the Ministry of Public Works from that had arrived to knock down the structure. Protests continued on Tuesday.
