A MAJOR trash pickup operation is underway in Colon as the Ministry of Health (MoH) fights to eliminate breeding sites of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits dengue.

“Fumigation is not the solution but the elimination of breeding sites," said Aurelio Pineda, regional head of the MoH.
Pineda said that 42 cases of uncomplicated dengue, have been reported, a figure considered positive and according to the result of a “titanic" effort.
He added that the infestation rate is 0.9% and recommended that people clean up their homes and surroundings.
