Solving of Canal dispute a priority Italy Prime Minister
A RESOLUTION to the dispute between Panama and the consortium in charge of Canal expansion is "absolutely fundamental and a priority" said Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta on Monday. January 27.
The consortium is led by the Spanish company Sacyr and the Italian firm Salini Impregilo.
Letta said he met with his Spanish counterpart Mariano Rajoy in Rome to discuss the situation.
Letta issued a "strong" message with the aim of influencing the settlement of the dispute reports La Prensa.
"It is absolutely critical that we reach a solution to this dispute. It's a priority for both Spain and Italy," he said.
Earlier this year the consortium threatened to stop work if it was not paid an additional $1.6 billion for cost overruns.
The consortium has set a deadline of next Monday to resolve the dispute.
