Supreme Court President will not seek re-election

THE PRESIDENT of Panama’s Supreme Court, Chief Justice Alejandro Moncada Luna announced Thursday, December 19,that he would not seek re-election.

Moncada Luna said that although he has decided not to seek re-election, his administration "has been crystal clear and efficient."

In recent weeks he has been dogged with calls for his resignation from civil groups, lawyers associations and politicians after a controversial ruling against the Electoral Tribunal that was ruled unconstitutional.
Referring to criticisms that have emerged about his management, Moncada Luna said that he doesn't pay attention to newspapers or television because they don't tell the truth.
On Wednesday the National Bar Association and the Citizen's Alliance for Justice released a statement that indicated that justice has regressed under Moncada Luna's administration.
His term ends Dec. 31.
