59% believe Supreme Court president should resign
QUESTIONS about the actions of the presiding judge of the Supreme Court, Alejandro Moncada Luna, have generated a negative perception of his administration, and a majority of citizens polled believe he should resign.
The poll conducted by Quantix Panama for La Prensa, took place between December 4 and 7
59% of respondents felt that the Moncada Luna should resign . While 23 % felt that his actions were not severe enough end his job. The remaining 18% preferred not to give anopinion or said they knew nothing about the matter.
The survey had a sample of 1,230 across the country with a margin of error of 2.79 points and a confidence level of 95%.
Various sectors of civil society and political groups have recently protested, before the Supreme Court of Justice and the Ombudsman's Office to demand the resignation of the presiding judge, and his actions have been condemned by lawyers’ associations.
The cause of the outcry was in October last when Moncada Luna, along with alternate judges Ephrem and Gabriel Fernández Tello , issue a resolution suspending a decision of the Electoral Tribunal ( TE ) related to a Panama television attack advertisement against the presidential candidate of the Democratic Revolutionary Party, Juan Carlos Navarro. It was produced by Avanza, a government group. led by the former presidential spokesman. CD candidate Jose Domingo Arias, claims no connection with Avanza.
