Nationwide alert follows dengue deaths

A NATIONWIDE sanitary alert has been issued by Panama’s Ministry of Health following two  recent deaths from hemorrhagic dengue.

The deaths occurred in Chepo and San Miguelito.

Minister of Health Javier Díaz said that the measure is indefinite
The areas where priority will be given are Bocas del Toro, Panama and San Miguelito.
Diaz said there are four current cases of hemorrhagic dengue and that the patients are receiving the necessary treatment.
He said that a contingency plan is being carried out to control the disease.
This first phase will take place from December 16 to Jan. 15. And will involve eliminating mosquito breeding sites from which mosquitos transmit the disease.
