Panama politicians think they are given the country for 5 years
"Democracy is more than a way to choose, it is a way of behaving. Democracy is transparency, communication, respect, culture, citizenship. And the Panamanians are far from that reality.”
The statement came Monday December 9 from Victor Cucalón Imbert, president of the National Election Scrutiny Board (JNE), for the 2014 elections.
The economist, who will proclaim the new President of the Republic, claims that the new president’s behavior affects the behavior of other politicians. “They think we gave them the country for five years," he said.
Cucalón Imbert, who heads the JNE for the sixth time also discussed with La Prensa the electoral environment, attacks on the institutions and the patronage culture in Panama.
