Security Minister to meet with Attorney General on police shootings
PANAMA’S Minister of Security has finally surfaced to meet with the Country’s Attorney General to discuss two recent police shootings.
José Raúl Mulino confirmed on Thursday, November 21, that he will meet with Ana Belfon to discuss the two incidents of plain clothes police shooting at cars, in one case killing two children, in another injuring two women, one a senior citizen.
The shootings have led to an outcry that the police are out of control and act with impunity, and to calls for the resignation of the police chief.
The minister said that he was not able to meet earlier to discuss the incidents, but said that he has been in constant communication with Belfon.
The usually dapper Mulino, appeared before the media in an open necked shirt and minus his usual toughman personna. He announced that police officers involved in pursuits should be in uniform. In both instances, the shootings involved officers in plain clothes.
