Court president silent on latest court decision
WHILE fellow lawyers and civil groups are calling for his head, Panama Supreme Court Chief Justice Alejandro Moncada Luna declined to comment on Wednesday November 13, about a decision issued by the Third Room of the court.
The ruling does not support his earlier judgement on a complaint filed by the group Panama Advances against the Tribunal Electoral (TE). The group is headed my President Ricardo Martinelli's former media spokesman.
"No comment," said Moncada Luna upon arriving at the funeral of his uncle, Rubén Darío Moncada Luna, which was carried out at the parish of Our Lady of the Angels.
The ruling originally issued by the Third Room with Luna and two alternate judges, overturned a decision by the TE to ban an election ad funded by Panama Advances on the basis that it violates the principle of free speech.
The decision issued by the court Wednesday, determined that the complaint was "electoral in nature" and thus within the realm of the TEsays La Prensa
The original court decision caused a public outcry and claims that the court would potentially interfere in the 2014 election
