College of lawyers condemns court ruling
THE NATIONAL College of Lawyers has condemned the ruling by the Supreme Court which repeals a mandate of the Tribunal Electoral (TE) on an election advertisement.
The group joined joined the growing storm of criticism and stated the court has no jurisdiction in this area and that the decision violated the constitution.
"This demonstrates an abuse of power," said the former president of the group, César Ruiloba.
Former Ombudsman Italo Antinori described the decision as "counterproductive" and "absurd" and said that "there is an institutional crisis."
The court said that the ruling by the TE about an advertisement fingering presidential candidate Juan Carlos Navarro violated the basic premise of free speech.
