Police shoot and kill wo-year-old at check point

A TWO-YEAR old child was shot and killed and a 15 year-old seriously injured at a police check point in San Carlos on Wednesday October 23.

Police are investigating the incident in which one of their officers shot the children,

Officials have pledged to fully investigate the incident and hold any responsible parties accountable to the fullest extent of the law reports La Prensa.
The incident took place at the entrance of San Carlos where police had set up a checkpoint. Details were incomplete at mid-evening, but at least one officer is reported to have fired upon a Toyota Yaris that was carrying a family.
The victims were taken to a clinic and then airlifted to Panama City.
The two-year-old died en route while the other victim is in serious condition.

Later in the day The National Police issued a statement regretting the incident. It adds that the institution is committed to take " appropriate action at the administrative level and to cooperate in all that is required by the courts.
It also states that the Commissioner Ramon Castellanos , head of the Office of Professional Responsibility , established the beginning of an investigation.
On the other hand , the units of the Directorate of Judicial Investigation ( DIJ ) , allegedly involved remained in the San Carlos police substation after the incident .
Some Hindustani community members, remained at the site , to observe to the actions of members of the Public Ministry.
