Only 21% of Martinelli Twitter followers genuine – US report

THE MAJORITY OF President Ricardo Martinelli’s Twitter followers are fake or inactive says a US based study published in a Spanish language newspaper in Miami.

Using information from www.fakers.statuspeople.com to determine the statistics., the publication says the president's account, @rmartinelli, consists of 31 percent fake followers, 48 percent inactive and 21 percent true.
The article explained that most followers of Martinelli use photos of people who are dead despite the fact that Twitter prohibits the practice.
"The Ricardo Martinelli account on the social network uses fake profiles to make official propaganda," the paper wrote.
The newspaper says an image of the actor Juan Manuel Montesinos, who died in 2009, was used to give "identity" to a user identified as Ariel Barrera.
Currently the Martinelli claims to have 381,312 followers.
Martinelli’s communications spokesman, Luis Eduardo Camacho said that it seems absurd, "to say the least."
