Panamas link to corruption scandal back in jail

VÁLTER LAVÍTOLA, the man in the center of international bribery investigations that have cast a cloud over Panama’s political scene is back behind bars.

His return to a prison cell came the same week that La Prensa began publishing its investigation into the alleged international corruption in the government of Panama in awarding contracts to Italian companies.

The former intermediary between former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and the current Panamanian President,Ricardo Martinelli was conducted by agents of the Italian penitentiary police detention center " Regina Coeli " of Rome , on Saturday evening October 12, says La Prensa

The Naples court has put an end to the replacement of prison for house arrest , issued last May, because the prisoner has violated the conditions dictated by the magistrates prison supervision .
Agents of the Financial Police are investigating Lavítola’s contacts with third parties and, in particular , the presence of a car with dark windows and a driver repeatedly seen near his home .
