More roadwork projects on the way

WITH TIME running out as his presidency nears its end, President Ricardo Martinelli is using photo-op openings of existing projects, to put his stamp on more road works.

At the opening of the El Paical-Ricardo J. Alfaro-Juan Pablo II street intersection, part of the first phase of the via Brazil corridor project at a cost of $216 million.
He asked Jaime Ford, chief of Public Works to put out to tender, as soon as possible, roadworks on Via España to connect it with the North and South corridors.
In addition to the stretch of road on Via España other interventions are planned for some of the avenues in the capital such as Samuel Lewis and the exit from the Costa del Este, as well as the construction of viaducts and overpasses.
As the election campaign heats up, construction projects across Panama city have taken on a new dynamism with work continuing through the night and at weekends.
More ribbon cutting and more traffic snarls are on the way, but no reports of sidewalk improvements.
