Life rosier for government insiders
WHILE the majority of Panamanians struggle to get by on monthly pay packets of less than $500, nearly 30,000 central government employees earn more than $1,000.
That doesn’t include nurses and medical technicians.
A report of the Office of the Comptroller General reveals that 29,113 employees of the central government make more than $1,000 a month.
A Comptroller General report entitled "Employment: Public and Private Sectors: August 2012," says that 20,255 workers earn between $1,000 and $1,500 a month.
A second group of 4,311 employees earn between $1,500 and $1,999 per month while a larger group of 4,547 employees earn more than $2,000 a month.
