Panama stalls on conflict with European Union

PANAMA has made no moves to resolve problems with the European Union (EU) over Law 41 which restricts foreign investment in maritime auxiliary services.

The EU has opened the door to avoid a trade dispute between the block and Panama for the implementation of the law, but Panama’s government has taken no action.

The European Commission requested adjustments to the regulations of the law so that European companies can continue to work in Panama, which would avoid "unfortunate tensions".
Asked by La Prensa on Tuesay about the matter, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Ricardo Quijano, said he had been briefed and awaits further observations from the European side.
