Balbinas request for larger stage turned down

PRD STALWART Balbina Herrera's hearing on charges she released state secrets has been delayed until October 4.

The Tuesday September 24 trial was suspended because Herrera did not attend the court. Instead, her lawyers requested that it take place in a larger venue so more people could attend.

Herrera said it is important that people hear what is said at the hearing.
The request was not granted but the hearing was delayed so Herrera could attend.
A large number of her supporters packed the Municipal Court of Ancón. Others outside carried banners calling for Justice said La Prensa..
Yesterday, Herrera criticized the public prosecutor for bringing the complaint, which is being heard by Municipal Judge Yorlenni Fruto. She said it is an example of the overreaching of the judiciary.
Herrera is accused of releasing e-mails between President Ricardo Martinelli and convicted Italian businessman Válter Lavítola regarding defense contracts.
Lavitola , who had close connections with Martinelli and his family is a central figure in ongoing investigations into bribery allegations against Finamecanica an Italian conglomerate.
