Riveras number retired at Yankee Stadium Ceremony
PANAMA’S and New York Yankees pitching hero.Mariano Rivera saw dozens of Panamaian flags in Yankee Stadium when his number, 42, was formally retired.
Under a radiant sun in the Bronx, players, coaches and employees of the Yankees were witnesses at the ceremony on Sunday September 22.
The rock band Metallica introduced Rivera, who enters games to their song "Enter Sandman."
"Thank you all for 19 years of support," said Rivera, addressing the crowd. "It's been a great career. I will always have New York in my heart."
Rivera announced his retirement at the end of this season prior to opening day. The Panamanian is the all-time saves leader with 652.
After receiving homages in various stadiums since April, it was time for the Yankees to honor their certain hall-of-famer. on Sunday September 27
Former Yankee manager Joe Torre, as well as former players Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams, Paul O'Neill and David Cone also witnessed the ceremony.
Rivera made his debut in 1995. Two years later he took over as the team's closer and helped them win five World Series championships.
The ceremony was held before the game against the San Francisco Giants.
