Turncoats lose out in CD primaries

JUMPING ship has not brought immediate rewards to a group of politicians who abandoned their original party to join the CD.

They were defeated in the party's primary on Sunday. September 8.

Among those who lost was former PRD Deputy Miguel Bush, who abandoned his party in December last year saying that he was not receiving "love" from the PRD.
Eliseo Castillo of Chiriquí, another former PRD member, also lost as did Darien Deputy Luis Lay, who left the Panameñista party.
Alternate Deputy Diego Lombana, who went from the Panamenismo, to the CD, failed in his candidacy for deputy in the 8-7 circuit.
Former Panameñista Zaida González and Deputy Ricardo Valencia failed to become the candidate for mayor of the District of Arraijan; While Beti Aguilar, another ex-Panameñista, did not win the nomination for mayor of Penonomé.
Panameñista Deputy José Luis Varela said that the political lives of these candidates is not over, as the CD has reserved 254 spots on the ballots that will be filled by appointees. He expected that many of these will be for people who switched parties.
But he added that this strategy will haunt the party as he predicted these candidates would also lose in the general election.
