Truckers block Panama-Costa Rica border
SEVENTEEN Costa Rican truckers maintained a roadblock Sunday Augusr 25 at the Paso Canoa boarder crossing to protest the policies of Panama border control agency Senafront.
The protest began Saturday. The truckers have prevented other trucks from crossing the border to highlight alleged abuses of the Panamanian authorities. They said they will not move until a solution is found.
Spokesman Juan Carlos Segura said truckers have been unfairly targeted by Panama officials for minor offenses such as lack of safety signs and tires that are not up to standard.
According to Segura, the truckers also have to travel to David to pay the fines, which is about 30 kilometers from the border. The trucks can't enter the country until the fines are paid, he said.
