Fears of Panamas new ethanol program said unfounded
CONSUMER fears about the addition of ethanol to gasoline in Panama from September are unfounded says the company that has the monopoly.
From September 91 and 95 octane gasoline will begin to sell with 5% ethanol, and there have been many concerns expressed by users but experts say that this implementation will bring multiple benefits.
Rafael Gonzalez, BE Spirits Company (Pesé fields), which in principle would have a monopoly of the new business, said the additive fears are unfounded.
Fears as the cars will be damaged or fuel costs increased create "undue alarm," he said.
He added that far from harming users, ethanol will become an ally because it will represent an environmental benefit, improve fuel quality and combustion in cars, and link directly to better health of Panamanians.
He also mentioned the social benefit, as new permanent jobs are being created. With the entry into force of the program more than 2000 sustainable jobs will be in place..
On the other hand he said a liter could be around $1.22, but the ethanol program did not directly drive the price issue.
On Friday at the headquarters of the Technological University of Panama, there was a demonstration of the use of 91 and 95 octane gasoline with ethanol in 34 cars and a motorcycle.
The demonstration included several brands, including Lexus, Toyota, Kia, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Hyundai, Ford, among others, with models ranging from 1984 until this year.
