Martinell name will linger on public buildings

PRESIDENT Ricardo Martinelli will leave office in 2014, but  the family name will be around long after he has gone.

The adorning of state institutions with the president's father's name Ricardo Martinelli Pardini started in July, 2009, after he took office

A library at the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Panama (UP) already carried the name of his father who was a dentist and a scholarship carries the name Dr. Ricardo Martinelli Pardini.
A school in Sona, Veraguas Province, a health center in Las Garzas-Pacora, and now the wind farm in Penonomé  also carry the father's name
On Monday August 5 Martinelli unveiled a blue cloth to inaugurate the wind farm and expressed surprise at seeing the name of his father on the board
But these are not the only projects that bear the name of a relative of the president says La Prensa. The TBMs that drilled the tunnels for the first Metro line of Panama were baptized with the name of his wife Martha, his mother Gloria and her daughter Carolina.
Recently, the director of the Social Security Fund, Guillermo Sáez-Llorens, decided amidst widespread controversy to give the new city hospital the name of the president: Ricardo Martinelli Berrocal .
Alvin Weeden ex comptroller recommended the setting up of a committee composed of different members of civil society to put names to a particular projects or entities.
