Fate of Ombudsperson to be ratified August 5

The last nail in the coffin of Patria Portugal’s career as Panama’s Ombudsperson will likely be hammered in by the National Assembly on Monday August 5.

Panameñista deputy, Luis Eduardo Quirós, confirmed Thursday Aug 1 that his party’s lawmakers will vote for the dismissal of Portugal. After an analysis with his party, Quiros said he concluded that Portugal did not clarify the controversial contracts she awarded.
"If there are doubts about her actions, Portugal cannot be the Ombudsman," he said on Telemetro reports. However, he said that you cannot forget that members of the Assembly have been consistently asking for other officials to be called before the Assembly like the administrator of the Waste Waste Authority, Henry Ho
Deputy Adolfo Valderrama said that "Portugal has failed to provide the morality that this position deserves", which warrants her dismissal.
On Monday, , the resolution of the Credentials Committee of the National Assembly, which recommended Portugal’s removal from office will be discussed by the full Legislature.
According to the President of the Assembly, Sergio Gálvez, with that resolution Portugal will be finally removed from her position as a peoples’ advocate, and a contest opened to choose the new Ombudsman. The period for which Patria Portugal was appointed ends in 2016.
