Motorcyclists gain time to conform to new law
MOTOR BIKE riders in Panama have gained a breathing space before being forced to emblazon helmet’s and jackets with their plate numbers.
The original date was Wednesday, July 24, but hours before the deadline they wer n let off the hook by the Transit Authority (ATTT) until August 8.Originally ATTT.
There have been protests from motorcyclists nationwide.
The Authority said Tuesday that while extending the deadline they will continue to evaluate proposals submitted to the Ministry of Government by groups of motorcyclists.
Motorcyclist groups say that the measure will not help reduce the use of motorcycles in acts of crime. They also insist that the measure is unconstitutional
Meanwhile, the ATTT has asked motorcyclists to meet traffic regulations and "not to risk their lives and those of others by driving in the midst of traffic or on sidewalks."
