Mayoralty candidate not mentally prepared
THE MAN who first wanted to run for president and then dropped out of the race for mayor was not mentally prepared to run for office says a political analyst..
Josef Blandón said Sunday, July 21 "A political career is hard and full of pressure," he said. "It requires a level of emotional development that Guillermo Ferrufino [former Panama City mayor candidate] does not have."
In Blandon’s opinion, the current minister of Social Development did well to retire.
He said that Ferrufino's problem was not his health, but his emotional state.
"He is not ready for a fight and he did well to withdraw," said the political scientist.
PRD Deputy Alcibiades Vasquez said Ferrufino closed the door to his political future.
He said the minister's decision to drop out has hurt the CD, as current mayor Roxana Méndez "is not guaranteed of a triumph." Other insiders considered Ferrufino a lightweight :
CD General Secretary Rómulo Roux said Ferrufino withdrew due to health problems and that the primary will still be held.
President Ricardo Martinelli, who helped stifle Ferrufino’s presidential ambitions and pointed his way to run for the mayor’s office, said after his withdrawal that he would have been a winner. That leaves current Mayor Roxana Mendez as the favorite to get the CD nomination, although National Assembly Chairman, Sergio Galvez may still be spoiling for a fight.
