WHAT THE PAPERS SAY: The chilling facts behind a hospital name
Hoy por Hoy, La Prensa June 26
The board and the general direction of the CSS, displaying their proclivity for issues different from improving care and welfare services for its users, has made every effort to give a future city hospital the name of Ricardo Martinelli Berrocal even if they have to defy the law and common sense.
Their argument is Martinelli's performance when he served as director of the CSS. They forget that he served for just 21 months and "resigned" amid multiple confrontations with health unions and even the insured who he was, presumably, serving.
The chilling fact is that the President welcomed the gesture of the promoters of the initiative, whom he called "true heroes who provide care."
Tell that to the survivors and families of victims of the KPC, the inmates of the Institute of Mental Health or the mothers of the eight infants who have died in the Hospital Complex Arnulfo Arias Madrid, without knowing the reasons.
The president and the institution have been badly served by complacency and the desire to please him while losing a sense of proportion.
